Background

Kaiming Liu is a Chinese-born (2000) illustrator based in Los Angeles, United States. Since childhood, Kaiming has taken the opportunity to observe exciting landmarks on road trips. Kaiming found himself fascinated by artificial structures and natural forms. As an undergraduate, he realized his passion for illustration, traditionally and digitally. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Art in Illustration at California State University, Fullerton.

Inspiration

Kaiming is interested in the background and narrative illustrations. Kaiming’s inspiration for his work connects landscape, science fiction, fantasy, and reality. His works illustrate a dramatic environment rendering, including lighting, shading, dynamic composition, and entities in a realistic or a fantasy world. Kaiming is passionate about watercolor, landscape, and the environment.

Style

Kaiming's style is influenced by traditional watercolor, from which he took Lawrence Yun's classes at Cal State Fullerton. It took him about two semesters to develop his favorite watercolor-like style for digital painting. He enjoys hand painting digitally and incorporates techniques from traditional watercolor.
